| We have
compiled these questions in order to answer some of the most
common queries we receive. We offer free technical/installation
advice and are happy to talk through your individual requirements
so please do not hesitate to contact us with your questions.
1. What type of
inverter do I need?
There are two main types of inverter Modified, sometimes
called quasi and pure sine, sometimes called true sine. The
difference is the type of electrical waveform they produce.
Modified Sine produces a square waveform. This means that
they are suitable for running items such as lights but cannot
run anything that is electronically sophisticated or variable
speed. You can also experience interference with TV's, Radios
and Computers.
Pure Sine produces a clean waveform just like the normal
mains supply and are needed for delicate electrical or electronic
items such as stereos, Laptops and anything variable speed.
At Power Master we only sell Pure Sine inverters as they
offer the best performance and compatibility with today's
modern products.
2. What size inverter do I need?
The size you need depends on the amount of power you require
from the inverter. In order to determine this you will need
to check and list the power rating of all the equipment you
wish to run from the inverter.
Equipment (like inverters) will normally have two ratings
the continuous power and the peak/maximum power. For example
a microwave could be 850W but its peak power could be as high
as 2500W.
So go through what equipment you will be using and what it's
combined power is. You will need to take into account what
items will be on at the same time and for how long etc..
This will then give you the size of inverter you need eg:
350W up to 3000W.
When comparing inverters you need to check that the power
rating given is its continuous power NOT it's peak power eg:
1200W continuous power 3600W Peak Power.

at offering advice and guidance on all aspects of your product
choice.
3. What size battery bank should
I have?
In order to decide this you should first assess your power
needs as detailed in "What size inverter do I need?".
From this you will be able to determine what power you will
need in order to meet your specific requirements. The general
rule is that you can never have too many batteries! Of course
there may be space restrictions, which necessitate a certain
number.
To give you an idea one 110ah 12V battery can provide 500W
of continuous power for approx 1hour 20mins.
We do not recommend any heavier load than this per battery.
More batteries means less load on each battery and so a longer
duration and longer battery life.
This is based on using a Power Master inverter which efficiency
ratings of between 85-90%. Our inverters are "low frequency"
which means they using low frequency switching with large
Toroidal output transformers to give higher efficiencies.
All figures quoted are approximate and based on batteries
in good condition.
4. What size battery charger do I
need?
The Power Master range of intelligent battery chargers are
available in 12V or 24V and range from 6amp up to 50Amp. The
size of charger you will need depends on your battery usage.
You should consider;
How often will I need to recharge my batteries?
How long/often will I have access to mains?
How quickly do I need to re-charge?
The size of charger you will need depends on all of the above
but obviously the larger unit you have the quicker it will
recharge your battery bank.
If you need more help on this then please contact us for
advice.
5. Can I install Power Master products
myself?
It is possible to install our products yourself but we recommend
that you use a qualified electrician/electrical engineer.
It is your responsibility to ensure that any installation
meets all the relevant regulations/requirements. We are happy
to advise your engineer on the installation and we may also
be able to put you in touch with a qualified installer in
your area.
6. Where should I install my Inverter/Battery
Charger?
As detailed in "Can I install power Master products myself?"
We recommend you use a qualified electrician/electrical engineer
to install your Power Master products. We provide a manual
with your product, which gives details on the installation
requirements or you can call us and we will advise.
